One heck of a week
Well, we're here. We arrived in town last Sunday and are having a hard time believing it's only Thursday. We are splitting time between the apartment in LoDo and the Farm; we expect to be all moved into our temporary digs at the Farm by Saturday.
Although we usually start our posts with what we've learned, it's been such an eventful few days, we'll just list everything that has happened.
1. We have furniture. Our truck came Monday. Most of our stuff is in the garage, and a worrisome amount of what we have unboxed is broken. We also cannot find our dishes, or the fourth leg of Melinda's desk. But, we are slowly pulling together the temporary apartment and will get pictures up once we're settled in.
2. We have a contractor! Moreover, a contractor that is already starting to do light demo (saving baseboards, etc.). Our dumpster comes tomorrow, and although there is a slight permitting delay, we expect full demo to begin within a few weeks. The contractor is going to let the kids do some sledgehammering, so everyone is happy.
3. We have appliances. The contractor's team spent yesterday taking the nasty Rat-Boy appliances out of our temporary space and jeri-rigging in the nicer appliances from the main house. Not pretty, but functional.
4. Melinda has a car! A hybrid SUV, actually. Hopefully it does not get rear-ended.
5. We have our own cactus. Also, WE HAVE A RATTLESNAKE IN OUR BARN. Or a bull snake. It's not clear. The exterminator comes tomorrow and we will of course keep everyone updated. Melinda and the contractor most definitely heard a rattle, but apparently bullsnakes (which are not poisonous) mimic a rattlesnake's rattle. So yea. There's that. We are missing the MTA Pizza Rat.
Construction status: Progress!!!!!!
Murphy Scale: Um. Lots. Champagne for getting started and massive amounts of tequila for the snake, chased with some red wine for the fact that we have a Real Housewives-esque luxury SUV. ๐ธ๐ท๐ธ
As we've gotten to spend more time in the house, we continue to discover more bizarre, horsey things. So we leave you with thes following pictures.
These are the pulls on all the woodwork in the formal living room. With her sharp eyes, Gabriella noticed that they are horse heads.
These are the tile backsplashes in the butler's pantry. We have decided to save them and put them in the new wine room. They are hysterical! Haven't you always wanted a drunk fox in your house?

Rat Boy left this hanging in his closet. We realized that if you put clothes on it, it looks like the dog is wearing the clothes. The kids are scared of it. We threw it out.

Our stables! The doors are really gorgeous so we are going to try to see if we can repurpose them for the rec room down the line. Our rattle/bullsnake lives in the third stall. Hopefully by the time you read this, he will be gone.
Our cactus!
A handpainted lightswitch plate in Rat Boy's room/our current kitchen. So horsey.
